the best of subco

over 10 years of free creative goodness. (mind the gaps.) a personal "best of" list.

rtn008 less static more noise -- i don't mean to pimp my own release, but i'm just that stoked with it.
flw003 from sunset last night to sunrise this morning (i don't want to sleep) --despite its preposterously long name, great chilled out stuff.
rtn005 mute city ep -- sonic art, a work of genius. no wonder jani is on contract elsewhere.
rtn003 machinae ep -- a solid minimal release with style coming out the wazoo. track 1 i a great opener to whatever, while 2 just mesmerizes.
flw002 when earth fell on the moon ep -- though i've heard it way too many times, this is still excellent, and somehow feels like a landmark, like there's something significant about this one.
sc00164 radio inactivity ep -- hardmoon is a genius, and this is his second release that shows just that. tracks 1-3 are special for me personally (no explanation given), and constitute some of my all time favourite ambient works.
sc00157 spacemusic for the millions -- did i mention that hardmoon is a genius? this release can either be listened to intently or play in the background. faves are tracks 4 and 5.
sc00148 stylewar ep -- over 6 years old now, but still worth every second of your attention. deemed worthy of vinyl by more than just myself at the time. fave: warpsig.
sc00146 weird twists of the mind -- who could forget the day jerzz came over and tried to knock our front door down with this album. some fo us are still recovering and some never will. jerzz has been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh feedback due to his style (or alleged lack thereof) and unpolished sound. the thing is, it just works. jerzz has been received much better since, by many, even making his way onto rohformat. just let it be known: you heard him first on subco. faves: 2 through 6. all of 'em.
sc00133 maxbroks -- a single track in the best of? yes: one of the best techno/psy crossover tracks i know. nomad and the later shakta (and many others) can go eat their hearts out. i heard some previews of later stuff xyto (aka zoutman) was working on, and regret that this has remained his sole release here.
sc00127 cure -- the first release jarkko made under the yasahi guise, and though the backdoor ep was more substantial, this was the more impressive and significant release.
sc00118 second chapter -- ...and finnish techno was born. this track's outrageously violent industrial sound can bring a smile on my face no matter the circumstance. also, considering jani and antti's style we were used to at the time, this came out of the blue like thunder.

Yes, I'm still around :)

This list is ordered by release-date:

Uknown Source - Cry Without Tears (sc00075)
For some reason, this song just brings up feelings. It's technically not the best song ever made, but it has soul.

Saiko - I Dunno (sc00069)
I consider this to be one of Saiko's best songs. It contains the typical awesome melodies we know from him, dipped into some breakbeat craziness!

Tripwire - In Your Head (sc00043)
THE Subco classic for me. Really well thought out Techno.

I can't pick songs from the middleage and up, since there's just too much quality to pick from. I sincerely adore almost all of those songs.

P.S. How's it going dude? I've tried to contact your numerous times, but never got any reply. I'm glad to see you're still alive :)

Cheers!
