hey again.
yesterday, rtn003 got released. a tenfold huzzah for outgate and his minimal hypnotechno! this is the stuff that we like.
in other news, two more dj mixes have surfaced featuring material from sublogic releases. first off is harald walker's firecracker mix, released on the dutch sonic walker blog/label, which involves two tracks from forcesupreme's stylewar ep: "warpsig" and "cuntmustash".
then, there is another mix by dj l'embrouille, this time released on the avionix netlabel: his netlabel mix week 51 includes another track from cadra's last ep. these mixes are worth their download time. even if you're on dialup.

outgate - machinae ep

tn_rtn003.jpg

the third instalment on routine comes from our finnish friend jani rantanen a.k.a. outgate, who returns after a break with more machinated techno material in a style similar to that of his rtn001 contribution "take me back". like said track, the musics on this ep revolve around a similar theme: start with a plain beat, break it down, add wondrous little sounds, make a lot of promises, and cut right back to the plain beat. in spite of what you may be thinking: it works wonders in practice.

first off, "our way" starts with an almost clicky kick that takes a few steps to transform into something a little more robust. the bassline comes along in a similar fashion. the track hypnotises you as it drags you along into the break, in which aforementioned wondrous little sounds are added: a sweet dreamy melody... that ends as the beat reinstates itself.

"less sugarless" is a little less minimal in its approach, starting with pulsating lead bass sounds and and introducing a quasi-melodic drum rhythm before long. however, it is similar to its predecessor as far as its hypnotizing qualities are concerned. and of coarse, the same break structure (this time with a nice ethnic vocal) pops up.

the last track has a slight acid tendency. of all three, "camouflage" has the most pronouncedly melodical main loop (which is, nonetheless, repeated endlessly and relentlessly). moreover, it doesn't really have a break with the absence of a kick drum.

on the whole, this ep is one minimal, yet big, hypnotic trip into outgate's personal twist on machinated music. and once more, it has "routine" written all over it. best played loud, and in complete darkness.

you may have already noticed the release of rtn002 and flw002 on this label. a new bit is that french dj l'embrouille has featured two tracks from cadra's artificial untelligence ep in his latest dj-mix entitled "mélénick session vol. 3", which has been released on the zerinnerung dj mix netlabel. this mix consists of nearly 80 minutes of techno, from releases on a wide variety of netlabels, e.g. rohformat, heavy industries, epsilonlab and more.
l'embrouille is also said to seriously rock the house down every wednesday night at 10pm when he mixes live on the livesets.com netradio.

the second instalment on the flow sublabel is brought to us by our very own yasahi. an ep release in one piece, in this case, comprising 5 tracks (or perhaps "movements" is a better word for it) which flow gently into one another and form a unity. you'd have to listen intently and pay attention to truly notice the transitions.

the first and last parts are (how logically) entitled "departure" and "return". in between them is a 17-minute long journey through the yasahi universe. breaking rhythms, remarkable sounds, fuzzy strings, and even some shreds of industrial noise and a pure electro (!) movement make this trip worth every second it takes.

have at, and enjoy.

cadra - artificial untelligence ep

tn_rtn002.jpg

the second release for the routine sublabel features 4 hard-kicking acidish techno tracks, all produced by cadra. 23 minutes of madness follow.

starting off on the a-side, "we've got forever" takes a wobbling acid loop with a pounding beat as a start and slowly builds up tension. cadra's put the compressor to good work, judging by the pounding feel of the bassdrum. the first half of the track is the warming up, after that we're in for some aggressive action, as the wobbling acid loop slowly evolves into a mean juno-like riff.

"talking about" is a true techno-acid hybrid. it is quite monotone and minimalistic in nature, but continues to flow due to the tight percussion lines and good breaks. though i can't really pinpoint why, it has a bit of a haunting mood over it.

the b-side, which gives the ep its name, contains two tracks named "artificial" and "untelligence". they are exactly equal in length, but explore the whole acid-techno thing in different directions. while the first track tends a bit towards ripping acid noise, the second track is taking the 'classic' 303 sound to new levels. both tracks are blunt and minimalistic in their approach, which suits the theme 'artificial untelligence' just fine.

cadra's excursion into the realms of acid-techno (i'll stop using that phrase now) will take a heavy toll on your speakers. not only the production, but also the postprocessing (i.e. mastering) sounds superb.

go check it out and be amazed!

flow one and some rss

yes, it has been delayed for a month and a half, but FLW001 is here now. luckily, i'm not about making apologies, so just start enjoying it and you'll forget about how late it came in soon enough. however, due to aforementioned delay, other new releases have been piling up behind it for some time now, so new material will be arriving soon (of course, i had to have all three "001" releases out in the open before anything else - that's the perfectionist i am).
what's also new is the rss feed. firefox users should note the small orange icon in the bottom right corner; those of you who use another browser may need to find the orange button that says "RSS" to start making use of this great new feature. well, right now "great" means it contains the same releases as the "home" page - the last of each sublabel - but it can grow still. for now, you can use it to rest assured you'll know when a new release arrives. what a comfort!

various artists - flow one

tn_flw001.jpg

at long last, the first flow release has arrived, and it's bound to give you music that doesn't have steady beats, but rather breaking ones or simply none at all. oh, and for all it's worth, and in spite of what may seem, the timing is as excellent as it could be. trust me on that.

psync opens for FLW001, bringing (also at long last) the original version of "breek", of which a remix by his buddy subatomic vision can be found on the gated reality ep (SC00162). the differences between the two are obvious and so are the similarities, but to stick to the present and describe this mix, it will suffice to say that it's a great track and a good way to spend the next 5 minutes.
the second track is brought to you by veteran yasahi, and nearly fell out between this incarnation of this label and the previous. luckily, it was caught and restored in honor. the track is a remarkable mixture of distorted (but not loud) guitar-sounds, electronic-sounding beats and of coarse, plenty of pads and strings that hops from one "beaty" part into an ambient chill and back again. interesting to say the least.
planeshifter's "ethereal signs" is an accidentally unreleased track from way back that somehow slipped onto the scene.org hosting server but got missed out on the site itself. like the previous track, it has been miraculously recovered, but this one has also received a good sonic wash-over and a fine layer of aural polish, so it sounds like new - not like last year. planeshifter's style (in this track, at least) is a gentle one that involves a slow rhythm, a lot of "dim" filtering, sweet strings carefully arranged into the chords they play, and generally no rush in getting you anywhere.
lastly, techno gladiator forcesupreme surprisingly pops up on the "other side" with his little breaking contribution, "spineapple". considerably less relaxing than the preceding material, this is a quasi-industrial electro/breakbeat track, that has plenty of beats, but quite simply, no straight ones, thus fitting the flow profile. it may not be his native musical genre, but it still has his rather successful style written all over it. this one is worth a listen without distraction, not only because forcesupreme turning up on this release raises an eyebrow or two, but especially because he -once again- is doing a great job.

have at, and enjoy what flows from those speakers!

p.s. once again, a big and loud "thank you" to jani (outgate) for his cover artwork.

back once again

hi there. after nearly half a year of comatose slumber, we've done it once more and the new site is finally ready for you to behold. what's new? well... everything is; just go and check it out. and don't forget to check out the new releases!
oh, while i'm at it, there's one thing to mention about those releases. i know i promised to have 3 releases ready at the time of launch, but the itch to get it all going outgrew my desire for consistency. therefore, only the routine and transfer "001" releases are here now, and FLW001 will follow shortly (that is, as soon as it's ready).

various artists - routine one

tn_rtn001.jpg

the routine sublabel welcomes you with 4 tracks that honor its name. so as you might have figured, that means techno, mostly.

subco newcomer (but scene veteran nonetheless) rvaggelen opens with a relatively soft and definitely groovy piece of music, "when she". warm pads and gentle leads make this pretty melodic, while the kicks are deep and hypnotising in a way, flavoured with a layer of minimal drumsounds.
the next track was recorded live, pretty much in one go, by jorn-c, in a way that was found unreproducable. it contains some glitches, but since it's good as it is and a studio version wasn't going to happen, it is released as it was made: raw live. it slowly builds up, taking you with it in it's drive.
forcesupreme also returns to this ep with his track "tunnel", that almost resembles the style of his oliver shine moniker. almost, but not entirely as its melodic content is more minimal and monotonous. it does have those magnificent breaks and the vibe we already know that has only been further perfected in the past months.
lastly, outgate's "take me back" for sure has "routine" written all over it. minimal, dark to the point of gloom, slow and incessantly driving, it creeps onward, not toward anything in particular, only to build something up and then slowly take it apart again.

enjoy!

p.s. a big and loud "thank you" to jani (outgate) for his cover artwork.

various artists - transfer one

tn_xfr001.jpg

to kick the transfer label into being, here is a release consisting of 4 tracks by various artists, varying from merely trance-influenced sounds to deep down psy madness.

for starters, vibenation brings us "the fall of arabia". in fact it's hardly trance, maybe not trance at all, but it bears influences from progressive and the harder stuff vibe has been doing in the past. also features nice arabic vocals. in all, a gentle opener to this release.
second, we have the more to-the-point beating "mirror image" by our old friend deFusion, known from the plantbane releases which he made together with saiko. it's a bit of a trance/house crossover, similar to the style of matthijs b.
then, the b-side of this release is the psy-side, starting with a co-operative track by cadra and saiko. to the experienced (or otherwise well-informed) listener, both artists' influences are audible in it: you could almost pick out which parts are made by whom. now, it must be said that for psy this track is almost cheesy, so luckily, it's not the last and there is one more to compensate.
gated reality are the guys responsible for the final track, and they do what they do best. what exactly that is, is as hard to define as ever, but at any rate... it's weird. "phunk'd" rolls molested organs, distorted incomprehensible voices and melodies that could be considered "plain wrong" into over 6 minutes of sonic insanity, and supports it with a tough beat, an equally tough bassline and the necessary drums.

cheers!

p.s. a big and loud "thank you" to jani (outgate) for his cover artwork.
