jorn-c - con-fusion ep

tn_sc00167.jpg

it's been over a year since jorn-c first (and last) released something here - his debut, dust (SC00140). in the meantime he got busy making us some terrific dj sets, which can be found in the features section. however, he is now back with a new regular release, and a new kind of sound as well: one that blends techno with trance, apparently the way it was meant to be done.
the con-fusion ep consists of two tracks. the a-side, con is a ruff, dark and effect-ridden trip through oblivious beats, into a huge spaceous break, and back into stomping beats again. something refreshing, and definitely worth dancing and losing your head to.
track on the b, fusion, sticks to the more trancy and melodic side of techtrance. it pounds steadily, but not as hard, being a more progressive journey through sound.
after this, you'll want more. and so do we.

cadra feat. gazoda - hysterical day

tn_sc00166.jpg

i can't possibly write an unbiased description about music i made myself, but having no description at all would be even lousier. i'll just quote myself:

"this release comprises two cooperative projects i've done in the past -err- year or something.

the b-side track was conceived originally as a pretty standard trance track, as a way to help my friend alex biesheuvel, a.k.a. dutchmage, into starting to make music using renoise; he wanted to give it a try. the track was never finished, but at some point i took the chords out of it and did a loungy track - my first in that genre. i thought it worked out reasonably well, but had no intention to release it.

later this year, another friend of mine, robin wakker (gazoda), who plays guitar, asked me if we could do a project together, with my electronic-based beats and synths and himself on guitar. and he wanted it to be loungy. i suddenly remembered having done this one chilled out track before, and said ok. rather quickly, a track with no pronounced lead instruments was conceived, burned onto a cd and taken home by him. i'd almost forgotten all about it when he called me up and asked to do the guitar line he had worked out for it. it was done the next day and he gave it its name - hysterical day.

so here you have 'em both. sit back and enjoy."

moonstruck - drive / bodyshock

tn_sc00165.jpg

finnish antti lampinen, known to us as psylocke, returns with two new tracks and one new project name - moonstruck - which he will apparently continue to use henceforth.

the music is of the housey kind, though similarities with previous releases shimmer through all over the place: bits of the creativity that spawned butterfly and metropoli are obviously in there. the a-side, drive is more progressive of nature and pretty laidback, yet maintaining a sharp, techy edge. bodyshock shows the use of sharper, unpolished-sounding synths, and a busier rhythm, and later on some sudden trancy influence. in spite of all the differences on paper, these tracks are surprisingly similar at the same time, and are together for a reason - definitely worth checking out!

hardmoon - radio inactivity ep

tn_sc00164.jpg

this is the second guestrelease from hardmoon, which has been waiting to be released for quite some time now. we just had to put it up here, so it wouldn't strike root on our shelf. if you liked the previous release from this wizard of the spacemusic, you'll probably like this as well (and vice versa).

the mood of this ep is more electronic than on the album that preceded it, and maybe a bit darker. the global style, however, is audibly similar, and indeed, audibly the work of a man who knows what he's up to. i could spend hundreds of words describing the tracks, like on spacemusic for the millions (SC00157), but i'd end up saying "it's just one listener's interpretation" again. there is just no reason not to at least check these tracks out, even if only for curiosity's sake.

magicdust - magicdust ep

tn_sc00163.jpg

hard. relentless, psychedelic and magical. that about sums up magicdust, a98's newest project. magicdust is a very entertaining blend of goa, trance, and techno; sparkling with originality and a sure-fire floorfiller...
the a-side 'magicdust' places its emphasis on trance influences, while b-side 'strike' leans over to the techno side. throughout both tracks, the beat is harsh and the atmosphere magical and hypnotizing. it's hard to come up with music that resembles this vibe; which is an accomplishment is itself.
this EP clearly shows a98 hasn't run out of magic dust... if we're lucky he might sell some to us :)

gated reality - gated reality ep

tn_sc00162.jpg

the long-awaited debut from gated reality seems to have finally arrived. apparently, working together with psync brings out subatomic's even weirder side, and one that gets involved in breaking rhythms rather than the regular 4-on-the-floor psytrance kicks. indeed only the last track of the ep, wrong turn, is based on the straight 4/4 principle, and in fact, this was the first of the tracks to be made.
the opener track, black snow, is harder to define. in terms of percussion it is entirely breakbeat-driven, and next to that its main leads are made of strings, pianos and distorted guitar-soundalikes. nonetheless, the psychedelic edge you'd expect from mr. vision is audibly present in there, even though most of the track is something quite different.
track 2 is subatomic vision's remix of a breakbeat track by psync, entitled breek, that wasn't even finished at the time. and, well... it's so utterly weird, attempting to effectively descibe it would be futile.
the last track, as has been implied before, should sound more familiar to those who heard some of those older releases by subatomic vision.

storyteller - highway

tn_sc00161.jpg

progressive trance the way it was intended. well, according to us sublogickers, at any rate. matthijs breijer once more takes on his storyteller guise and delivers a two-track release of his very own multi-purpose dancemusic. it fits driving, dancing, dreaming, dining... or practically any other activity starting with the letter "d". and that includes d-d-downloading.

update: this release has been licensed away and was removed from here, as per artist's request.

plantbane - the last ingredients

tn_sc00160.jpg

again, a new name on this one. plantbane is the cooperative project of our very own saiko and void pointer, who has been around here somewhere for quite some time. as it is said, saiko always has large chunks of inspiration, but also, often has trouble finishing tracks. working together with void pointer apparently negates this predicament, and evidently results in nice packets of musical delight, the first of which is standing right in front of you.

"the last ingredients" is a goa-tune with reggae and arabic influences, and however strange that combination may seem, works quite well. saiko's style is also noticeable, but, mind you, has been augmented by void pointer's rather more twisted tendencies. the result is very much worth hearing, and asking for more. curious? then you know where to go from here. not curious? i say you should be. ;)

raastin - communicate

tn_sc00159.jpg

raastin has returned. those who can remember this track's predecessor, second chapter (SC00119), know what that means: postapocalyptic industrial techno from finland.
in the 18 months since their debut, raastin collaborators psylocke and outgate have been going their own ways mostly, but now it seems their joint project is back where it belongs. and whatever these two men have been doing while going separate ways, it seems to have thoroughly improved their skills. let it be heard, and let it be felt. this track contains more distorted noises and effect-ridden percussion, and though isn't as rough and dirty as second chapter, it's a lot more polished and sounds cleaner in terms of mixing.
i suggest you get your ass downloading.

tn_sc00158.jpg

the latest yasahi track is somewhat different from most that preceded it from said artist. no ambient floating beatless through space this time: it's an electro track that reminds of the first release jarkko hietanen made under this monicker - cure (SC00127). only less minimal.
